What is the difference between FDY and DTY?

FDY (fully drawn yarn) and DTY (Draw Textured Yarn) are both synthetic yarn types used in the textile industry, but they differ in terms of their production processes and characteristics:

FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn):

1. Production Process: FDY is produced by a process called full draw, where the polymer chips or flakes are melted and extruded through spinnerets. After extrusion, the yarn is drawn to its full length and diameter. This process gives FDY a smoother and more uniform appearance.

2. Texture: FDY has a smoother and shinier texture compared to DTY.  It's often used in applications where a glossy appearance is desired, such as in fabrics for lingerie, hosiery, and some types of sportswear.

3. Elasticity: FDY typically has less elasticity compared to DTY. It is less stretchable, which makes it suitable for applications where stretchability is not a primary requirement.

DTY (Draw Textured Yarn)

1. Production Process: DTY is produced through a process that involves texturing the FILAMENT YARN. This texturing process imparts a crimped or textured appearance to the yarn. DTY starts as partially oriented yarn (POY) and is then drawn, heat-set, and textured to create the desired appearance and texture.

2. Texture: DTY has a textured and matte appearance. The crimped texture gives it a more natural and fabric-like look, making it suitable for a wide range of textile applications, including casual apparel, home textiles, and outdoor fabrics.

Elasticity: DTY is known for its superior elasticity and stretchability. It can be used in applications where flexibility and comfort are essential, such as in activewear and athleisure.
